Interview With Usman Majid, Srinagar, Kashmir, September 2005

Usman MajidUsman Majid (also spelled Usman Majeed), Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly, and member of the Cabinet of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in mid-November, 2005. Rahul Pandit, M.D., interviewed Mr. Majid two months prior to this public attempt on his life. In this hour-long revealing interview about his personal involvement in the rise of terrorism, he gives reasons for the subsequent loss of influence of fundamentalist Islam in the Vale of Kashmir. Details of his own involvement in the militant movement of the early 1990s reveal the global and fundamentalist influences that gave rise to the current Kashmir situation.

Amnesty International Interviews Dr. Rahul Pandit on the Human Rights Show, Houston, TX, July 6, 2005

This interview on the Human Rights Show, Pacifica Radio, WKPFT in Houston, organized by members of Houston's chapter of Amnesty International, briefly discusses the background of the Kashmir struggle, and focusses on the human rights violations of the Kashmiri Pandit minority. Dr. Pandit discusses elements of the sectarian struggle from the minority Pandit standpoint, and is followed by Dr. Joseph Schwartzburg, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Minnesota, who is a member of the Kashmir Study Group (KSG) headed by Farooq Katwari.
